14. How do I get my GED?

    1. Individuals desiring to enroll in Adult Education classes or take the GED test must have officially withdrawn from school and completed all obligations to that school.
    2. Come to the Adult Education Office at 2701 E. St. Louis, Door A (about a block and a half east of the intersection of Eastern and St. Louis).
    3. Sign in and register with Adult Education.  An appointment is not necessary.
    4. Speak with a counselor.  Applicants are seen on a first-come-first-serve basis.
    5. Take the official GED practice test (also called a pre-test).
    6. Discuss your scores with a counselor.  If you need classes, the counselor will assign them to you and you may begin attending immediately.
    7. The counseling services, the practice test, and the classes are all FREE.
    8. When you are ready, you may sign up for the GED test:
        • You must present your valid state or government-issued photo I.D. or a valid driver license when registering for the GED test.
        • Complete the registration form
        • Complete the demographic booklet, items 1-10 (required)
        • Pay the $60 testing fee.
        • You will be given your choice of the next available test dates.
        • You may choose a one-day test (given on Tuesday, 8:45 a.m.-5:00 p.m.), OR you may choose a split test (Wed/Thur) which gives half the test each day.  For the split test you may choose A.M. (10:15 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) or P.M. (3:45-8:00 p.m.).
        • You must present your valid state or government-issued photo I.D. or a valid driver license when you come to take the GED test.  You will not be permitted to test without it.
