School Work Over Summer

Mixed Feelings about Summer Vacation
Provided By: Rachel Crosby- Editorials Editor

We all know summer vacation is practically the best thing ever. Most of our favorite memories consist of staying up late, hanging out with friends, and best of all, not worrying about school the next morning, week, or even month. But other than the obvious positives, there are tons of reasons why summer isn’t all that it’s cut out to be. Here are three:.
It’s hot: It’s unavoidable – summer in Las Vegas is like spending your day in an oven, and the wind just makes matters worse. While travel costs a ton of money, most of us end up enjoying the time off locally. So, even when we are able to go outside and be active, unless we do it in the early morning or late at night, we are forced to endure scorching temperatures and blinding sunlight. Yes, getting a tan is awesome, but it too quickly turns into a sunburn (not to mention most of us can only take the heat without getting heatstroke for about an hour tops). As a result, we either spend our day in the pool or, more often, cooped up inside.
It’s boring: Yes, you don’t have to worry about homework, and you get to hang out with your friends all the time, but let’s be realistic. First of all, most of our parents are working, and since going places and doing things requires reasonable means of transportation – unless you have a license and a car – it’s really hard to get to where you want to be with the people you want to be with (and even if you do have a license, most of us require parent permission to go somewhere, which certainly isn’t granted every day).  So, while the sun bakes Vegas for 3 months, most of us are stuck inside watching the television and smaller siblings

Dear Aggie,
Summer is right around the corner and I am so excited! After so many tests, exams, and homework, I am ready to ditch the books and relax for three months! The only problem is, I don't know what to do over summer. I usually take vacations my parents plan where we go out of town, but money is a little tight this year and my parents aren't taking me anywhere. What should I do to keep my summer exciting and adventerous?
    -Signed,
            No Vacation

Dear No Vacation,
Summer is very exciting for students; it's the one break we look forward to the most, but right now, the economy is not at its best. Many families are staying at home this year to save money. This doesn't mean you have to miss out on all the summer fun though. There are plenty of things to do in town. Spending the day swimming with friends, going to local art shows downtown, shopping, washing your cars with friends are all activities you can do during summer. Staying in town may not be the most adventerous way to spend your summer, but it saves a lot of money.
    -Signed,
           Aggie __________________________________
