Spring Break

March 29-April 2

Bonanza High School will be closed during Spring Break March 29 - April 2 - school resumes for students and staff on April 5th.

Fire Science Academy News

The Fire Science Academy (FSA)is brand new for the 2010-11 school year. The goal of the FSA is to prepare students
for admission to a post-secondary institution or employment in the fire science field. More importantly, the FSA's flexible schedule raises the academic bar and encourages Advanced Placement (AP) participation, adds relevancy to courses, and inspires students to apply and integrate knowledge by completing projects and work experience. Students must apply for admission to FSA.

Students are expected to maintain academic standards of a 2.0, “C,” cumulative GPA and a “S” in citizenship or better in all classes. Students not maintaining a grade “C” or better in all classes at the conclusion of the first semester will be placed on ACADEMIC PROBATION. The student’s counselor will schedule a meeting with the student to develop a written improvement plan. Failure to meet a 2.0 in each class by the end of the academic year will result in withdrawal from the Fire Science Academy and revocation of zone variance, if applicable. For 2010-11, only applications for freshmen (Class of 2014) and sophomores (Class of 2013) will be accepted. The deadline for receipt of the application packet is May 1, 2010. Please see the attached application and the FSA Pathway.

April 19 & April 20

We cordially invite Class of 2014 students to attend Eighth Grade Registration Night at 6 p.m. on April 20 and April 21, 2010, at Bonanza High School. These evenings provide you with the opportunity to register for classes, talk to Bonanza counselors and meet with elective teachers. Night Registration will be held in the cafeteria from 6-7:30PM. Course Registration Guides, an invitational letter, and pre-registration forms will be delivered to the middle schools during the week of April 5th. Incoming students should bring your course registration guide and preregistration worksheet with you to the program. Your attendance at this program is imperative to ensure a smooth transition to high school. If you are unable to attend the registration evening, please use the course registration guide to complete the preregistration form and return it to the Guidance Office at your home school by April 23, 2010. Counselors will register students whose forms are not returned and electives will be selected for these students based on availability. AP/CSN Night

April 13

All currently enrolled sophomores and juniors who plan to enroll in Advanced Placement classes or dual enroll at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) during the upcoming 2010-2011 school year are encouraged to attend AP/CSN Night on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 in the library at 6PM. A representative from CSN will be on hand to answer questions regarding testing and enrollment fees. Two Guidance Counselors will provide information regarding AP, SAT and ACT testing. All AP teachers will pass out their course expectations and summer reading lists. Since AP and CSN are very rigorous courses for high school students, it is strongly suggested that students planning to enroll in these courses attend.
