| Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Welcome to the opening of the 2009/2010 school year. I hope your summer has been relaxing, enjoyable and you’ve spent some quality time with your loved ones! As we begin another school year our faculty and staff is committed to helping students make the most of their school year. Our vision is to provide all students with the best educational experience possible.Through the summer the custodial crew has done an excellent job of cleaning the facility to provide a safe learning environment for all students. If you have the opportunity, please express a note of appreciation to them for a job well done!
As many of you know, schools are evaluated on state and federal mandated assessments annually. The last two years, Cannon has achieved excellent results in English, reading, and math. For the 2004-05 school year our success was in reading and writing and in 2005-06 we have made annual yearly progress in math, on all sub-categories. If you are interested in seeing Cannon’s gradual success, the school’s AYP profiles are posted on the Nevada Department of Education website.
While the school can take some credit for helping your child succeed, parent involvement is always a critical element to a student’s success. Thank you for your commitment to your child’s education! Additionally, if you would like to serve in the following committees; library, multi-cultural, Learning Improvement Team, or Parent Advisory Council, Please call Gaby Gutierrez, the office manager, at 799-5600, ext 4100.
Please stop and say hello to our new assistant principal, Tonya Rose. Mrs. Rose brings experience, knowledge, and the belief that what is right for the child takes precedence when making educational decisions. We are pleased and fortunate to have her with us.
Visit our newly formatted website. We think you will find it user friendly and informative. Please write us on your feedback of our new website.
We will continue to build on our successes and set the standard high for learning. As our mission statement reads, we are committed to preparing students to become responsible citizens of the community who are critical thinkers, independent learners, and effective communicators.
Sincerely,
Dr. Elmer C. Manzanares
