Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! I am proud to serve as the principal at such an outstanding school.  It is truly a pleasure and an honor to work with the talented students, involved community, and dedicated staff here at Herbert A. Derfelt Elementary. I am committed to ensuring that every child is provided a quality education that will prepare them with the skills necessary to be a lifelong learner.

Here at Derfelt Elementary School we are very proud that we have achieved AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress as defined by No Child Left Behind Act) for the fifth consecutive school year. The staff of Herbert A. Derfelt is committed to ensuring that student achievement continues to grow. We will continue to celebrate diversity among our students, staff and parents and recognize the vital role of a diverse learning community. Teachers will consistently utilize a variety of instructional resources, materials, programs, and strategies to meet the needs of all learners.  We will continue utilizing and implementing a wide variety of research-based instructional programs this year.
