Overview
These services are provided, as part of the Student Support Services Division of the Clark County School District, to all students with a documented disability, as mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC). These services will address each student’s educational needs as part of an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) where parents play a fundamental role as active members of the IEP team.
These services are offered within our comprehensive school campus in a wide range of levels (continuum of services) from the least to the more restrictive as follows:
- Student receives services in the general education setting with supplementary aid to address his/her needs.
- Student receives services in a combination of general education and resource room (smaller classroom) settings.
- Student receives services in a self-contained program (smaller teacher-student ratio than the general education setting).
At Desert Oasis there are four self-contained programs to address the educational needs of students, such as the following:
- Specialized Diversely Mental Retardation Focus (SDM).
- Specialized Diversely Learning Disability Focus (SDL).
- Specialized Emotionally Challenged (SEC).
- Autism.
Documentation
Out of State Transfer
If the student was attending an out-of-state school, it is recommended that when the parents come to our school to register their child, should bring a copy of the last psychological evaluation (report) and a copy of the last Individualized Educational Program (IEP) from the out-of-state school. This will expedite the procedure considerably in our efforts to ensure that your child receives the most appropriate free and public education in the least restrictive environment (LRE).
In State Transfer
If the student was attending a school in the State of Nevada, outside the Clark County School District, the same documentation described above will apply to expedite the process to find the child’s most appropriate placement and services in the LRE.
