The reading portion of the HSPE is composed of 60 multiple-choice questions. Students demonstrate reading proficiency by responding to questions based on a variety of text types and lengths represented in the standards document. Questions are developed to measure the student’s depth of knowledge (cognitive domains) in areas which include: Initial understanding of text; Interpretation of text; and Critical stance of text.
