
Elizondo Elementary School was named for Officer Raul P. Elizondo by the Clark County School District Board of Trustees.
As a member of the North Las Vegas Police Department, Officer Raul P. Elizondo was killed while performing his official duties as a uniformed police officer on January 30th, 1995, at 5:24 a.m. Officer Elizondo is survived by his mother Ann, a retired Clark County School District teacher, his father Raul, his sister Ann, and two younger brothers, Robert and Paul.
Officer Elizondo was born on July 21, 1967 in Mesa, Arizona. He grew up in Henderson, Nevada and graduated from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. He was hired as a full time commissioned police officer with the North Las Vegas Police Department on March 13, 1992. On November 12, 1994, Officer Elizondo received a commendation from Chief of Police, Ronald Lusch, for his dedicated service, outstanding job performance and valor above and beyond the line of duty. Officer Elizondo received the highest award possible from his fellow officers of the North Las Vegas Police Officers Association as the “1994 Police Officer of the Year.” The 4th Citizen’s Academy was dedicated to Officer Elizondo.
Officer Elizondo was an admired, respected, dedicated and loyal police officer. He made a personal commitment to serve his community above and beyond what was expected of him. He provided assistance to families within his patrol beat by insuring that children has Christmas or birthday presents. He routinely visited many individuals to assure their well-being.
Officer Elizondo’s concern for all living things extended to his personal interests, one of which was raising English bulldogs. The English bulldog is the official mascot for Elizondo Elementary School. The original illustration of the English bulldog as our school mascot was created by Paul Elizondo. The English bulldog mascot wears a gold star as a symbol of the law enforcement mission to serve and protect.
Officer Raul P. Elizondo exceeded all professional and personal standards. He provided a most honorable example for others to follow for years to come. The students, staff, and community of Raul P. Elizondo Elementary School pledge to perpetuate his memory through our commitment to serve, protect, and achieve continuous academic excellence.
The motto of Raul P. Elizondo Elementary School is to work hand in hand to build a strong America through good citizenship.
