STUDENT SERVICES
2009-2010 |
|
Bus transportation:
Students who live more than two miles from school are provided with bus transportation by the CCSD. Transportation by bus is a privilege that can be temporarily or permanently taken away from a student is bus rules are not obeyed. This is for the safety of all students. For more information regarding bus routes, contact the CCSD Transportation Department at 799-8191.
Classroom disruptions:
It is the intent of the staff to use instructional time to its fullest advantage. Messages and delivery of items will be limited to emergency situations only. Please
make every effort to plan student appointments after the school day.
Delivery of Messages to Students:
To ensure the safety of your child, we cannot take and deliver messages to your child over the phone. You must be present at the front counter, with identification in order for us to tell your student of a change in after school/home plans. The only exception would be to tell a student to go to Safekey after school. Identification will be needed in order to pick them up from Safekey.
Food Services:
Breakfast is available beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the lunchroom at a cost of $1.00. A variety of items such as milk, juice, sweet rolls, pancakes, French toast and cereal are available. Lunch is $ 1.50, cash daily or advance purchase. Milk is available for students who bring their lunch for $.25 (1/2 pint carton). Parents are encouraged to maintain a credit on the account and pay off any charges as soon as they are made. Notifications of balances or charges owed will be sent out on a regular basis. Food service for a student may be interrupted if there is a significant amount owed. Contact the Food Services Department at R. Guild Gray Elementary if you have any questions. Applications for free or reduced lunches are available in the office.
Health Services/Medications:
The school nurse is available on a limited basis. A First Aide and Safety Assistant (FASA) is on campus every day in order to take care of daily injuries or illnesses. Parents will be notified if the student needs to go home. They cannot leave school without a parent/guardian signing them out through the office.
If a student needs to take medication during the school hours, they must take it to the nurse’s office. A Medical Release form must be filled out by a parent/guardian. The medication must be prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner. No over the counter medication may be given with out a valid prescription.
Lost and Found:
Please clearly mark all personal belongings, such as backpacks, coats and lunchboxes. This will allow us to return lost items quickly. Otherwise, students may claim lost items by the checking the lost and found box, located in the lunchroom. Lost items, such as jewelry, glasses, purses and money can be claimed in the Front Office. Items not claimed on a monthly basis will be donated to a charity organization.
Picking Up Children During School Hours:
Whenever possible, please send a note to the students’ teacher letting them know of an early pick up or release. All persons must check in at the office before picking up a child. We exercise extreme care when releasing children from our school. Identification will be needed in order for the student release to occur. Please do not pick up any students between 3:00 and 3:21. This causes a classroom disruption and the student may miss some valuable closing information.
Student Insurance:
Student accident insurance is available to all students. Forms are sent home during the first week of school or can be picked up in the Front Office.
Student Records:
An active record of your student’s progress is kept at school. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1971 provide parents access to records, which they are directly related to their child. It also provides parents with an opportunity to seek correction of records they believe are inaccurate.
Telephone Use:
The school office is the center of all activities and is busy at all times. Students may use the phone only in cases of emergency. It must be used with the discretion and the permission of the office personnel.
