Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to an exciting 2009 - 10 school year at George E. Harris Elementary School. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated staff, as well as, an excellent community working together for the benefit of our students. Everyone at Harris worked tirelessly and made impressive academic gains in 2008 - 09. As a result of our staff, parents and teachers all coming together, I am proud to say that our school has been classified as a school that demonstrated Adequate Year Progress (AYP) during the 2008 - 09 school year. Together, we met all of the criteria in the areas of English language Arts, Mathematics, and an area entitled School Wide Other Indicator as outlined in No Child left Behind (NClB) law. Harris Elementary School received the Service Area 2 Academic Growth Award for recognition of outstanding achievement in English language Arts (ELA). Our proficiency rate for ElA increased by 11 % and our Math proficiency rate increased by 5%. I look forward to the challenges and rewards of the upcoming school year.
