"Soaring to Success"

Mission Statement

The Charles A. Hughes Middle School staff and community is dedicated to promote in each student a desire to Honorably Achieve to the best of their ability by a Willingness to work hard to obtain the Knowledge which will prepare them for a Successful high school experience.

Charles A. Hughes Middle School is adopting a new tardy policy meant to address the issue of tardiness at our school. The Administration has worked closely with teachers and staff to create a fair and manageable plan that will reinforce the importance of being to class on time. The school and district want to instill in the students valuable life skills like good time management and realize that student tardiness is a serious disruption to the educational process. Tardiness interferes with a teacher's time to teach and infringes on the educational rights of other students.* Please take the time to read over the following new policy with your student(s). If you have any questions, please contact the CHMS Dean's Office at 346-3250, ex. 4500.

Progressive Tardy Plan

3rd Tardy * Written Parent Notification
6th Tardy * In-House Suspension
9th Tardy * RPC
12th Tardy + * Suspension
*These are per quarter totals.

Tardy Lockouts

The Dean's Office will conduct random tardy lockouts to reinforce the importance of getting to class on time. To put the lockout into effect, an announcement will be made over the school intercom as the passing period ends. Doors will be closed and students remaining in the halls will be assigned Dean's Detention. Dean's Detention is served after school from 2:31 pm – 3:01 pm in room K121. Students serving detention will be required to bring homework and work quietly during the entire detention period. Students are given 24 hours notice of detention to inform parents that they will be detained the following day. It is the student's responsibility to arrange or provide for transportation. In House Suspension may be assigned if a student fails to attend a Dean's Detention.
