The Principal's Corner

by Dr. Byron Green

We are almost halfway through the school year and the Iverson community continues to work toward increasing student achievement. Our school has adopted a new writing program, Being a Writer.  This is a literature based writing program that has our students excited about writing!  We have also ordered leveled books for our classroom teachers to use when working with small groups of students in the classroom.  This will allow students to read at their instructional level, helping students become stronger readers each day.  Parents, please support your child’s reading progress reading with him/her for 20-30 minutes each night!  Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade are preparing to take our high stakes test, the Criterion Referenced Test > (CRT).  Please support our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students as they get ready for this important and difficult test.

Our specialists continue to make Iverson Elementary a special place for students.  In addition to
teaching incredible lessons, Mrs. Crammer is working with students to create cartoon strips for the Iverson-Investigator.  Mr. Smith is preparing students to attend the Las Vegas Orff Festival as well as serving as a teacher advisor for the Iverson Investigator.  Mrs. Lindahl  is leading Dance Team as well as starting the Cup Stacking Club (I could never stack cups that fast ... ) Mrs. Thomas has worked with students on the recent Presidential election and is preparing for the next book fair, and Ms. Grimes worked with an Eagle Scout to build a fence around our desert garden.

Finally, our PTA has been very active this school year supporting students and parents of Iverson Elementary!  From movie night to literacy night, our PTA is doing a fantastic job!  On behalf of the students of Iverson Elementary, thank you PTA, and Carla Floyd, PTA President, for your work.  Your efforts are appreciated!

The Iverson Elementary mission statement states, “By meeting the needs and developing the potential of all our students, we prepare them to move confidently into the future with courage, strength, and grace; like eagles.” The entire Iverson community, including teachers, staff, and parents, must join togeth
