General Information

Marc Alan Kahre dedicated his life as a policeman and citizen to the service of this community.  He was presented the Award of Honor for Bravery in January 1977 for saving a women’s life during a fire.

Marc Kahre was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 22, 1954.  He was educated in the Clark County Schools.  As a teenager Marc learned to ride his first motorcycle.  He spent time building, repairing and riding them.  Because of his love of motorcycles, he wanted to be a police officer.  When he turned 21, he entered the Police Academy.

He married Chris McGhie and they stayed in Las Vegas to raise their family and began his distinguished and meritorious career with the Police Department.

Marc Kahre’s service to the community went beyond his working hours.  He participated in the Blue Knight’s Organization, a service project for both active-duty and retired police officers, raising funds for the “Walk Again Foundation.”

Marc Alan Kahre lost his life in the line of duty on October 11, 1988.  Officer Kahre was a 13 year veteran of the the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

On May 11, 1989, approval was given to inscribe the name Marc A. Kahre on this school.  On August 26, 1991, Marc Kahre Elementary School opened for the “First Day of School”.  This tribute for him, his family, and the community lives on through the children who walk in our hallways.  They will learn that their school name means dignity, service, and honor.
