Credits
I don't have an original idea in my head. So whenever I design a website it's totally based on features on other sites I've visited. Almost everything but the content (and even some of that in a few cases) is copied from another site. I hope I've given proper credit to everyone!
Layout
I normally don't like fixed width layouts. I prefer something more fluid that fills the whole window from left to right and top to bottom. But with this new site I wanted to use the graphic I currently use in the header. I couldn't think of a way to use it and still have the background stretch to fill it up. So I settled for a fixed width layout based on the Fixed layout version 1 by Stu Nicholls at CSS Play
Menu
I was hoping for a variable width menu that I could center in this page layout design. I love Stu Nicholls CSS menus, but I could never get both variable width and centered. The Professional variable width dropdown menu #5 at CSS Play seemed the most advanced and slim menu that had what I wanted.
Language Translation
The idea for the language translation bar was adapted from an idea from the folks at creativetechs. I saw the idea somewhere else while surfing the web and thought it would be cool for our website to have translation in the language of our community families.
Flags
The little flags used in the language translation bar were downloaded from the great artist at famfamfam.
W3C icons
I like having the valid CSS and valid KHTML badges on my sites. It just makes me feel good knowing I can design a site to standards. But I didn't want the "official" badges with this site design because they were too big. A quick search on the web for a CSS based badge led to CSS Workshop where I borrowed code for the ones on this site.
Header graphic
While surfing the web I came across a tutorial webkreation that I really liked - right down to the picture of the kids!
Fading Slideshow
The Ultimate
Fade-in slideshow used on the main page of the site was taken from Dynamicdrive.
