The curriculum overview has been developed to help parents understand what is expected of students at each grade level in the core subject areas of English Language Arts/Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. It provides a listing of the K-12 Nevada Content Standards, and many of the specific skills and concepts to be taught at each grade level. Additionally, the Clark County School District POWER STANDARDS for English Language Art/Reading and Mathematics are included in this document. Power Standards are the most critical standards that students are held accountable for mastering. They are highly focused, specific areas of instructional emphasis and are essential for student proficiency in the identified K-12 subject areas. Those standards that are not designated as Power Standards are intended to be embedded in instruction throughout the year.

This information may serve as a guide to help you evaluate the progress of your child in these subjects. Furthermore, such benchmarks and Power Standards foster accountability in our schools and help ensure that we provide all children with a quality education. More comprehensive information about the curriculum for all subject areas may be obtained from your school’s teachers and administrators.

CCSD specifies the K-12 curriculum as the basis for instruction in all schools. The Curriculum Essentials Framework (CEF) for Grades K-5 includes the Nevada Content Standards that outline essential student learning standards for each grade level and core course. These documents are used by classroom teachers as the curricular scope for planning and delivering instruction and for montioring student learning and progress.

CCSD have identified the POWER STANDARDS as the most critical standards that students are held accountable for mastering. They are highly focused, specific areas of instructional emphasis and are essential for student proficiency in the identified K-12 subject areas. They are aligned with the assessments for each grade and must be used to focus and pace instruction.

Students who demonstrate mastery of the grade-level POWER STANDARDS are given advanced learning experiences, and students who are not proficient are given the necessary basic instructional foundation to attain proficiency.
