Experiment: Properties of Squares

Objective

In this experiment, students can manipulate the square to change the size. Throughout the process, students can observe which properties will remain the same among all squares.

User´s Guide

By dragging any of the vertices of the square diagonally, students can create various squares. In addition, the two-slider bars can also be used to achieve the same result. The display of diagonals, angles, and related numerical information can be turned on and off as desired.

Suggested Experiments

  1. As you drag any of the vertices, observe the two diagonals. Are they equal all the time?
  2. Do the diagonals bisect each other?
  3. Are the two diagonals perpendicular to each other?
  4. Can we say that a square is an equilateral rectangle or an equiangular rhombus?
