Dr.
James B. McMillan died at the age of 82, in 1999. He arrived in Nevada
over half a century ago and is remembered for his civil rights leadership
to integrate Las Vegas casinos in the 1960s. He served in the Army
Dental Corps in China, Burma and India during WWII and was Nevada’s
first licensed black dentist in 1953. Dr. McMillan served as chapter
president of the NAACP, was a member of the Clark County School Board
and founder of the Las Vegas Human Rights Commission. His autobiography,
“Fighting Back” describes his life and contributions to
Las Vegas' civil rights history. |
