Morrow Morning News - Sue H. Morrow ES has developed a Morrow Morning News Program that is broadcasted to all of the classrooms throughout the school by using our TV system. The news reporters are fourth and fifth grade students, including the Student Council members. They lead students through the Pledge of Allegiance and thirty seconds of silence. They then inform students of the daily lunch menu, and the weather forcast. The reporters also give out important announcements, upcoming events, and school information. Our Literacy Specialist, Gary Colbert, is our cameraman for the program. David Klimek, TV Engineer from the Instructional Television Department of KLVX Channel 10, assisted Gary with setting up the TV modulator/VCR and program connections by connecting Cox Cable to the modulator. Any school who has a TV modulator and video camera may be set up for TV communication throughout their school to broadcast to all classroom TV monitors. For more information, contact Gary Colbert at 799-3550, ext. 4029.

Story and Snack – Each week, two students from each classroom are invited to the foyer to enjoy a story read by one of our administrators. The criteria for selecting the two students is left up to each teacher. The children are given a snack to take back to class.

Colt of the Month – This program is designed to recognize those students who have shown significant improvement in a particular area, which can include academics, social skills, classroom behavior, playground behavior, self-discipline, or any other area the teacher wants to acknowledge. It is celebrated with a monthly ice cream party hosted by our school counselor and psychologist.

Mustang of the Month - This program is designed to recognize those students who consistently demonstrate "outstanding citizenship." They are expected to set a positive example for their peers, in and out of the classroom. It is celebrated with a monthly luncheon in the Multipurpose Room. Parents are invited to participate in the luncheon as well.

Hats Off to You – Based on the “3 R” format: “Respect + Responsibility = Reward”, this program is designed to recognize students who are displaying Respectful and Responsible behavior on campus. A “Hats Off to You” coupon can be given to any student at any time, for any behavior that should be rewarded. The students are awarded a “Treasure Chest” prize when they have earned 25, 50, and 75 coupons. When a student has earned 100 coupons, they will be invited to have lunch with the administrators. An announcement will be made on the last day of the week for students to choose a prize from the principal's treasure chest.

Principal's Pat on the Back – Sometimes a student just needs a “Pat on the Back” for reaching a personal goal that may have been tough to reach—i.e. reading their first book, getting their homework in on time, passing a math fact test, etc.! One of our administrators will award them this certificate to congratulate them on their achievement. The teacher simply needs to fill out the form with the child's name and the reason why they deserve a pat on the back.

Birthday Books – Any student may purchase a book from our library to be their “Birthday Book”. A label with their name on it is placed on the inside cover of the book they choose. Our librarians invite students to the library during their “birthday month”. They read them a story and explain the details of the program to them. Students are given a pencil to take back to class.
