Mrs. Denise Murray
As we start a new year, I intend to play a central role in promoting a climate of respect and support for all students and staff. Let's start school with an emphasis on building relationships! Let's start school with an emphasis on community partnerships! One of our mottos at Neal is, "I believe in you." This statement lets our children know that we see something special in them. Because we believe in children, parents, and teachers, we will be capable of far beyond what we imagined. We will continue to affirm our belief in others every day this school year. Join us at our daily Sunrise Ceremony!
Student academic learning is the central focus of a healthy school environment. A majority of students have chosen to enroll in single gender classrooms this year. Research has demonstrated that providing instruction in single gender classes using effective strategies that are specific to the gender being taught will have a variety of positive effects in such areas as self-esteem, self confidence, expressive language, motivation, behavior, and achievement. If you have any questions about this exciting choice in academic programming in public school, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be happy to share the research with you!
I know that the first thing parents want schools to do is to keep their children safe. It is our vision that students and staff members will be physically and emotionally safe, socially civil, and academically productive. I also know that the second thing parents want schools to do is to teach their children to read. If the elementary schools do not teach their students to read early and well, it matters little what else we teach them. It is professionally unacceptable to have students reading below grade level. We will safeguard every minute of instructional time to ensure your child's success. We will continue to support the children's home training in manners and behavior. Students at Joseph Neal respect authority, respect others, respect themselves, and respect the rules. No wonder they always stand out in a crowd and are so successful!
Please use the district's web-based ParentLink system to review your child's grades, attendance, and other timely information in case of emergencies, school closings, and pertinent communications. Stop at the office if you need a new password.
There are some very important members of the Neal family that we certainly could not live without. The PTSO is the driving force behind many up-coming school events that directly benefit the boys and girls. Please support our fundraisers that purchase instructional books and supplies. The first fundraiser of the year will be the Entertainment Books. Our custodians, instructional assistants, and office staff do a great job. However, we always need volunteers. As always, we need help in the classrooms and reading with students. Please speak to your child's teacher. We always need help in the office, and this year, we could use help from anyone with carpentry, painting, or landscaping skills.
Joseph Neal is a great school with extraordinary people who do wonderful things for our students. I am proud to be able to work with you. Please never stop doing the great things you do. Thank you for your support and I know that this will be a year of joyful learning and teaching. Keep your eye on the CAP!
