The internet is a marvelous tool to use. It has so many places you can visit and so much data to read and learn. However, the internet can be a scary place as well.
You can run into some nasty people, places and things, like:
Online Safety Tips:
1) NEVER give out your personal information! This includes your address, phone number, full name, email, parents' names or other family members' names, etc.
2) NEVER post your picture online.
3) Keep your passwords private. Do not store them in a place anyone could find or share them with others.
4) Use proper "NETIQUETTE".
5) Stay away from strangers. When in chat, email or forums, talk to people you already know.
6) Always LOG OFF.
7) Tell an adult if something is bothering you. If you do not feel comfortable in a chat, email or forum, tell your parents, teachers or someone you trust about it.
What is proper NETIQUETTE?
1) Use appropriate language.
2) Be brief but clear. No one can see your face, so they can not see how you feel or look.
3) Be selective on what details you put in your messages. You want to stay safe online.
4) Do NOT SPAM. SPAM = posting unnecessary emails, chain letters or lists.
5) Do NOT respond to personal attacks or "flames." This will make people angry and get you in trouble.
6) Obey copyright laws by citing your sources.
Remember you are NOT anonymous! Everything can be traced back to you!
