Success at the CCSD Forensics Tournament

The Martin Middle School Speech & Debate Team had a marvelous time at the District Tournament on Saturday, May 2nd. We worked very hard with our mentors from Canyon Springs High School and it showed as we were competitive in all events. Congratulations to: Paola B., Colette J. and Marcella M. for the excellent scores and critiques they received from the judges, Susan H. for placing 4th in Original Oratory & Expository Speech, Jessica J. for 2nd in Congressional Debate, Trimaan M. for 2nd in Original Oratory & Expository Speech, Justin J. for 5th in Original Oratory & Expository and the team of Trimaan M. and Justin J. for earning 1st place in Public Forum Debate, and Selena T. for placing 4th in Interpretation Events, and 1st in Congressional Debate.

We were also in a neck and neck race with Rogich MS for Sweepstakes, or Top School in the tournament, it was so close they didn’t have time to tabulate the results at the tournament. Rogich had more than twice as many competitors as we did so you can see what an excellent job our students did. Once all the points were tabulated it was announced that we did come out on top and are excited to have brought home the trophy.

Dress Code

Roy Martin Middle School has had a mandatory Standard Student Attire policy in place for many years. Over time we have identified specific areas that needed to be revised. These changes have been approved by our parents and are in place for this school year. A few of the major changes are:

1. Only authorized colors may be worn. These colors are khaki, white, black, all shades of blue, yellow, gold, and gray.

2. Jackets and Hoodies must be solid color and free from Logos.

3. There is to be no layering of clothing.

Although not part of the Standard Student Attire we are also going to be examing backpacks more closely. They need to be clean, free of rips. graffiti, and student generated art. Backpacks that do not meet these standards will be confiscated and returned at the end of the year.
