SCHOFIELD ANNUAL SPIRIT WEEK
Next week is our Schofield MS Spirit Week. Each day will be a different way to show your school spirit and have some fun. Photos for the yearbook will be taken each day, so show your school spirit and have some fun.
Monday is Pajama Day... Roll out of bed and come to school in your PJ's. Be sure your pajamas are school appropriate and meet the dress code.
Tuesday is Crazy Hat Day... Don't be boring and wear a baseball hat, wear something crazy. A Santa hat, a cowboy hat, or even a sombrero. Be creative and show your school spirit. Have some fun and show your school spirit.
Wednesday is Crazy Sock & Hair Day... Do the Doo. Spike your hair, color your hair, do something crazy to your hair. It's also CRAZY sock day. Mix and match your socks, different sizes, different colors, have some fun and show your school spirit. Do something crazy with your hair and wear funny socks.
Thursday is Sports Jersey Day... Wear the jersey of your favorite sports team. Have some fun and show your school spirit.
Friday is School Spirit Day... Wear the colors of your school. That's green and gold. Paint your face, color your hair, show your true colors, green and gold. Have some fun and show your school spirit.
NOTE: CCSD dress code will be enforced. Please wear items that will meet dress expectations. |

MAGNET FAIR
A Secondary Magnet Fair will be held at Del Sol HS on Saturday, November 14th from 12:00 - 4:00 P.M. Most magnet schools will be represented at this fair. If you have any students who are now seriously considering applying for any/several of the magnet schools, this will be another great opportunity to meet one-on-one with recruiters. Please encourage your students to apply for ANY of the magnet programs that interest them. Students have a better opportunity of being selected if they keep their options open and apply to more than one school.

FUTURE CHESSMASTERS TAKE THE GOLD
Congratulations to the members of the Schofield Chess Club who brought home a total of eight medals, including four gold, at the CCSD Middle School Chess Tournament held at Hyde Park Middle School on Saturday, October 24th!

The Schofield Talent Show
Remember to look for Ms. Buehler in the mornings out in the courtyard. She will be selling tickets for $1.00 to get into the talent show next Tuesday, October 27, after school. You will be a judge for the final 5 winners:

and you will get to see the whole show. There are late busses available....see you out in the courtyard..they sell fast so be in the courtyard in the mornings. |

Our Flying Tiger Spelling Champ will be in CCSD FINAL competition against students from schools all over the District. The competition will be held at Vegas PBX-KLVX (Channel 10) on Wednesday, October 27. Collin will compete against five other seventh grade students. Go get'em Collin! |

Throughout the week there will be special video College Week announcements featuring Schofield students and staff.
Students are encouraged to wear shirts with the names of colleges or universities on them.

GEOGRAPHY CLUB
Any Schofield student interested in participating in the CCSD GEOGRAPHY BEE can come to the Geography Club on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. We will prepare for the bee that will be held in January. Practices will be held with Mrs. Hughey, Mrs. Holford and Mrs. Little. The first practice will be on Wednesday, October 7th in room 824. See you there. |

STATUS CLUB
Status Club will begin tomorrow in room 625. We will meet after school until 3:30 p.m.. If you are interested in keeping our community safe from drugs, alcohol, and other dangerous substances, come check us out. |

SPELLING BEE WINNERS
Congratulations to the winners of the annual Schofield spelling bee. This year's spelling list included some difficult and unusual words, such as sederunt, nidificate, and stymieing. Even the eighth grade English teachers learned a new word or two! The competition was very close this year, but the following talented spellers are the winners at their grade levels:

Our Flying Tiger Spelling Champs will be in competition against students from other middle schools, including Silvestri, Miller, and Del Webb. Go get'em Tigers!
The Area Service Center 3 Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday, October 8 at 4:00 p.m. in the Silvestri MS library. This is another written test, so as we understand it, this is not a spectator event. Parents may stay at the school, but they will not be in the same area as the competitors. If our students advance to the next round, they will participate in an oral spelling bee.

CCSD Middle School Chess Tournament
The Fall CCSD Middle School Chess Tournament will be held on Saturday, October 24 at Hyde Park Middle School. Start times will be provided at the chess club meeting on Thursday, October 1 in the Library. For those wanting to participate in the tournament, a $5.00 registration fee and form (signed by your parent) are due by Thursday's chess meeting. See Mrs. Dyer in the Library for additional information or to pick up the form if you have not done so.

TALENT SHOW AUDITIONS
Auditions for the talent show will be held on Tuesday, October 6 and Tuesday October 13 after school in the theatre. We are looking for any kind of great talent including singing, dancing, instruments, comedy, acting. You can memorize a scene, sing your favorite song, or perform your favorite dance. If you get accepted into the show, you will be performing for a live audience. Audition acts can only last for 3 minutes, but if you make it into the 2nd round you will have 4 minutes for your act. Just ask Ms. Buehler in room 616 if you have any questions. See you there! |

GOLF CLUB
Are you interested in trying out for the Schofield Golf Team? We will have an informational meeting on Tuesday, September 29th at 2:20 in the Art room, 212. We will discuss requirements and qualifications to be on the team. We will also let you know when and where the try-outs are. |

WELCOME BACK DANCE - "Back to School Zoo"
Our FIRST dance of the school year, the Welcome Back dance, is on Thursday, September 24 from 2:20 - 3:30. The theme is "Back to School Zoo." Tickets are on sale now, in the cafeteria at all three lunches for $3.00. Come and enjoy your friends, the fun, the best dancing ever. A snack bar will be available during the dance.
Dance Expectations
-Only Schofield MS students may attend.
-Student must enter by 2:20 p.m. and stay until the end of the dance at 3:30 p.m.
-Students may leave early only if released to a parent.
-The CCSD dress code is expected to be followed as are all other Schofield MS campus expectations.
-A late bus will be available for students that normally ride the bus. Other students must arrange their own transportation home so that they leave campus at 3:30 p.m. Plan ahead so that you do not have to use the telephone.
-Dancing that may injure yourself or others is forbidden.
-Dancing that is inappropriately suggestive is forbidden. |

CIVIL AIR PATROL OPEN HOUSE
Our first to be annual CAP OPEN HOUSE was a great success. Parents and students attended the introductory meetings that were hosted from 2:30 p.m.to 6:00 p.m. Dr. Jack Lund Schofield, retired Air Force pilot, our school's name sake and a member of the "FlyingTigers" spoke to the visitors and welcomed them to this exciting after school activity. CANNED SOUP DRIVE:
The Silverado High School Cheer Team is hosting a canned soup drive in a "Feeding America" contest sponsored by The Cheesecake Factory. Our Schofield MS cheer team is participating in this drive. If our team provides the greatest number of soup can, the SHS cheer team will come perform at Schofield MS and give our cheer team a one day cheer camp.
Please bring your canned soups to Mrs. Hughey in room 828. Thank you! This contest is ends Thursday, September 24th. |

Boys Basketball Intramurals
If you are interested in playing for the boys basketball team this year, intramurals will start Tuesday, September 8. Intramurals will be held in the gym from 2:20 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please sign up with Coach Murray so he knows how many students to expect. You can find Coach Murray in the boys locker room before or after school. |

FLYING TIGERS SOAR
Schofield Middle School held its annual Awards Ceremony on May 18 and 19. Over 350 students were honored by their classroom teachers, sdministration, The American Legion, and Dr. Schofield. Students received awards for Most Improvement and growth in a class subject, Excellence in a subject, Outstanding performance for a subject and Straight "A" Honor Roll for ALL three quarters of the 2008-2009 schol year.
Eighth graders were also awarded, Straight A's for 3 years which included a $100 savings bond, Presidental Gold and Siver Academic awards for GPAs above 3.4 and being in the top 85 percentile for testing, The Principal's Award, The Jack Lund Schofield Great American Award, and the prestigious American Legion Award. We salute these students for their hard work and dedication to their futures. Way to go Tigers! |

SILVERADO TAIKO DRUMMERS RETURN
The Silverado TAIKO drum line returned to Schofield Middle School on the morning of Monday, May 18. This accomplished drum team have helped Schofield Middle School celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month for the past 4 years. They were spectacular with their drumming expertise and added choreography. Thanks Silverado High School for your performance. |

Our Science teachers are in the spirit. Celebrate Earth Day by saving on a trip to the store, planting a tree, using less water while washing the dishes or brushing your teeth, or make sure that the extra lights, chargers, or televisions and radios are turned off when no one is in the room. |

Science Olympiad team takes 11 medals at the State Competition
The Science Olympiad program is a national academic competition in its 26th year of operation. For this competition a team of up to fifteen students compete in 23 different events reflecting the wide span of scientific endeavors. These events range from robotics, to fossils, to ecology and map reading. As an extracurricular event Science Olympiad has the aim of pushing students to learn beyond the expectations of the classroom, it also strives to develop in them a lifelong love of science and the development of a community of students who support each other in their passion for science and problem solving. |

TALENT SHOW
The Drama Clubs' Second Annual Talent show was
a smash!!! Lip-syncing to those famous hit by
Elvis, Sonny and Cher, Dean Martin, Diana Ross
and the Supremes, The Andrew Sisters and even
the Beatles brought the Audience to their feet.
Can't wait for the next "really big show".
Congratulations to all of the performers, tech
crew and the set designers and builders. Way to
Flying Tigers!!! You can ROAR with pride for your
