All outside gates/doors will be locked once instruction has begun. Parents wishing to conduct official school business may enter the school through the front door entrance. Whenever it is necessary to pick up your child during school hours, picture identification will be required. Students will be released only to those adults listed on the registration card in the office. All parents will sign a log at the front office. Extreme care is exercised at all times when releasing children from school. Students are not allowed to leave campus during the school day unless prearranged by the parent with a staff member of the office. Any student allowed to leave campus must sign out in the office before leaving school and sign back in when returning. Parents picking their child up from school will be asked to present an I.D. for the protection of all students. The early release cut off time is 2:45p.m. After that time, students will be released at our regular dismissal time of 3:11pm. |

All visitors must sign in and obtain a visitor’s badge with the office personnel before going anywhere in the school. This is for the protection of all students. Parents should schedule an appointment with their child’s teacher for school-related business. It is recommended that parents not remain in classrooms for an extended period of time as this impacts the classroom-learning environment. It is also policy to ensure that students learn to build independence and self-help skills in the school setting. |

The telephone may be used by students only in case of an emergency. Lost or forgotten homework, books, or lunch money, permission to visit a friend after school are not considered emergencies. |

When a student is absent, parents are encouraged to phone the office to report the absence and the reason. When the student returns please send a signed note verifying the reason for the absence. Excused absences include: illness, medical appointments, death in the family, mandated court appearances, approved religious holidays. Unexcused absences include, but are not limited to: babysitting, personal business, vehicle breakdowns, missed bus, alarm clock not working, and cutting school. It is the student’s responsibility to make up any missed work due to the absence. Parents may make arrangements for excused or pre-arranged absences up to a maximum of ten school days per school year, subject to the principal’s approval. Three days prior to the absence the office must be notified. Assigned work should be completed before returning from the absence. |

If your child is tardy, he/she is to report to the office to receive a tardy slip. Children miss valuable learning time when they are tardy. Unexcused tardiness will result in disciplinary action. Parents will be informed of this problem so they can work with the students and teacher in developing a corrective plan. |

The purpose of homework is to provide practice and reinforcement of skills taught in school. Consideration is given to a child’s outside activities, so homework is usually not assigned on weekends or holidays and is not given as punishment. Generally time spent on homework should not exceed: Kindergarten: 15 minutes, Grades 1-2: 30 minutes, Grades 3-4: 45 minutes, Grade 5: 60 minutes |

The school must have a current address, home telephone number, work number, and at least one emergency number on file for each student. Informational material will come home on the first day of school. Please complete all the forms and return them the next day. If any emergency or informational changes occur during the year, notify the office immediately. |

For children who require medication during school hours, parents must provide a prescription from the doctor and must complete a medication release form (CCF-643) at the school office. No medication of any kind can be administered without this completed form. This includes all prescription medicine, and over the counter drugs such as aspirin, Tylenol, cough lozenges, etc. An accident or injury occurring during school hours or during a school-sponsored event will be reported immediately to the teacher in charge and to the health office and parents will be notified. A school nurse is available on a limited schedule, usually only two days a week. A student who is too ill to remain in class will report to the health office and parents will be notified. |

Bicycle racks are available at school, and all bikes must be locked. The school is not responsible for loss or damage to bikes. The following rules apply to students riding a bike to school: |

Please label student’s name in ink on coats, lunch boxes, and personal possessions. Students should not bring toys, balls, radios, skateboards, roller blades, cameras, water guns, and other such items. The school will not be held responsible if they are lost, stolen, or broken. Children bringing personal items or other unnecessary items will have them confiscated by the classroom teacher, aides, custodial, or principal. Items will only be returned to the parent. Dangerous items such as knives, sharp objects, weapons, ammunition, toy knives, water pistols, and fire crackers will result in suspension. |

Breakfast will be served from 8:30 – 8:40a.m. Lunches are eaten in the lunchroom and students are under direct supervision of aides, teachers, and lunchroom staff. Lunches may be purchased daily, weekly, or monthly. If you prefer, your child may bring a sack lunch and purchase milk. Prices: breakfast $0.80 and lunch $1.40. |

Parents and/or guardians may apply for free or reduced price hot lunch anytime during the school year by completing an application available in the school office. The School District Food Service Manager evaluates all applications. All information is confidential. |

Parents are encouraged to join C. T. Sewell’s Parent Teacher Association. Many school activities would not occur without the often tireless efforts of PTA members. PTA meets the third Tuesday of every month. |

The Clark County Parks and Recreation will be providing a Safekey program. The Safekey program will operate from 6:45a.m. to 8:30a.m. and again from 3:06p.m. to 6:00p.m. For more information call 565-2124. |
