What It Means To Be An Empowerment School

Being selected as an Empowerment School has been a very exciting and encouraging event at Staton ES. The school was allocated financial resources based on our student enrollment and given the autonomy to determine staffing, as well as, other decisions that determine how we do business at Staton ES. Presently, we have a planning team of about 20 members that have worked diligently making decisions that impact staffing and instructional materials. These representatives are teachers from every grade level, specialists, parents and administration. This team has met on several occasions and worked collaboratively to design a plan that 100% of the staff agreed too. I am very excited to announce that Staton ES will have two science teachers and a computer teacher next year. These additional staff members will provide more opportunities for our student’s curriculum to be enhanced through technology and science. In addition, the team developed a plan to reduce class sizes and provide after school tutoring.
With the current economic situation, this entitlement could not have happened at a better time. The additional funding and autonomy to make decisions based on our community needs is a wonderful and unique opportunity. With this opportunity, comes greater accountability for all of us. We will continue to have high expectations for all of our staff, students and parents.

As the team continues to meet and make decisions about our school, I will keep you informed of the changes. If you have any questions regarding the Empowerment process, please contact me at 799-6720.
