Dr. Roger Gonzalez, Principal
Roger Gonzalez, Von Tobel Middle School's principal began his teaching career in 1990 at Rancho High School teaching social studies and reading to students for whom English was their second language. While at Rancho High School, he learned that his students could achieve, if given challenging work to do. He learned that his students did best in class when they felt their teacher was their advocate, and that students required lots, and lots of encouragement and attention. After serving as dean of students and assistant principal at J. D. Smith Middle School, he was promoted to principal of Roy Martin Middle School in 2000. He later opened a new comprehensive high school and served as a Director in Human Resources.
Dr. Gonzalez shares his philosophy of "Kid First, High Expectations, and No Excuses" with anyone willing to listen. Roger Gonzalez completed his doctorate in educational leadership from U.N.L.V. in 2002. In December of 2006, he accepted the challenge of returning to a school site to serve Von Tobel Middle School as the principal.
Ana De Beauvernet, Assistant Principal
Ana De Beauvernet, Assistant Principal, at Von Tobel Middle School, started her career as a reading teacher at Roy Martin Middle School. Ana was nominated by a student as "a favorite teacher who is unique" in the Alexis Park Hotel essay contest. She taught Title 1 reading at J. D. Smith and Robison Middle School before becoming a Dean at Robison Middle School.
In summer of 2005, she came to Von Tobel Middle School to serve as a Dean. She worked hard with students and parents to help students stay on the right track. Many of the students came to understand that consequences handed out for behaviors were not personal, but what was in their best interests. The following year, she was appointed Assistant Principal at Von Tobel Middle School. This experience brought new opportunities to work with the entire staff and student body. She reminds teachers that "If you touch a rock, you touch the past. If you touch a flower, you touch the present. If you touch a child, you touch the future." To this end, she works closely with teachers to help them impact the future.
