Maricruz Serrato arrived to West Prep her 8th grade year in 2006. Coming from Los Angeles, California, she was initially scared because she didn’t know anyone, but her fears quickly abated.
She is a favorite among her classmates largely due to her optimism, intellect, and diligence. Her peers know if they ever have a question about their studies, she will be more than willing to help them find the correct answer. After all, she has been named to the A-B Honor Roll all twelve grading periods she has been at West Prep!
The 10th grader aspires to gain a degree in Elementary Education from UNLV, hoping to become a Kindergarten teacher. Each morning she can be found in the front office assisting Ms. Gonzalez and Ms. Vega. Whether it be running errands or directing visitors, she does it out of the goodness of her heart simply because she wants to help.
When asked what her favorite class is, she answered “Food and Nutrition with Mrs. Ricketts.” Why? “We get to eat the food. That’s what counts!”
Maricruz Serrato embodies what West Prep is about. Dedication, intelligence, goal-setting, and, of course, a pinch of humor to make everything worthwhile.
